BHMS sits at Guetschstrasse 2-6, 6003 Lucerne — a lakeside city ringed by mountains, with a compact old town of covered bridges and painted facades. It is small enough to cross on foot, calm enough to concentrate in, and connected by Swiss rail to everywhere else.
For a first semester away from home, that scale works in your favour. There is no hour-long commute, no anonymous metropolis to navigate — campus, room and city centre all sit within the same short radius. Six months here is a focused block of time in a place built to a student’s scale.

Beyond the city
Weekends look like this
Lucerne sits where the lake meets the Alps. Mount Rigi’s cogwheel railway climbs from the lakeshore a short ride from town; Pilatus stands on the other side of the water; and the Swiss rail network puts the rest of the country within a day trip.
Six months is long enough to make a place yours. Students here get a semester of it — mountains in the morning, back on campus by dinner.

What does “shared accommodation” mean in practice?
It means you live with another student rather than alone — which, in your first weeks in a new country, is usually the better arrangement. Can I have a room to myself instead?

How do students get around Lucerne?
Mostly on foot. Lucerne is a compact city — the old town, the lake and the station sit within walking distance of each other, and Swiss public transport covers the rest. For a first semester abroad at 17 or 18, a city this size is a feature, not a limitation.
I will still be 17 when I arrive. Is there extra paperwork?
